Honey Glazed Salmon

This Glazed Salmon tastes like it came straight from the menu of a restaurant. In fact, my family loves this salmon so much that it has become a weekly staple in our household. Whenever I want something quick, but on the fancier side for dinner, I pick up a piece of fresh salmon from the grocery store and get down to business in the kitchen. The wonderful thing about this recipe is that it only takes 5 minutes of preparation and 20 minutes of baking time in the oven to create this delicious tasting dish.

The great thing about this recipe is that it is SUPER easy and almost effortless to make. This makes it the perfect dinner to serve to guests. There is no need to season your salmon filet because the seasoning is all in the glaze. Since salmon is already salty enough, there is no need to add salt. Soy sauce is also rather salty which is why I opt for a low-sodium version. Making the glaze for this is easy and only requires a few simple ingredients (some of which you probably already have on hand).

Glaze being poured on salmon.

In a small saucepan, I like to start with a generous amount of honey and heat that with soy sauce, lemon juice, garlic powder, freshly grated ginger, and black pepper. The reason I like to heat the sauce before glazing the salmon is so the honey can get thinned out and easily mesh with the other ingredients. It also helps the ingredients to simmer together and thicken into a syrupy consistency. Next, using my pastry brush, I glaze the salmon with the mixture and pour the remaining glaze on top. You can also use a spoon to do this if you do not have a brush. It will work out just fine.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb salmon

  • 2 tablespoons honey

  • 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce

  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger

  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder

  • black pepper, to taste

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 375° F (190° C). Lightly coat a baking dish with baking spray. Place salmon in baking dish.
  • In a sauce pan over medium-high heat, stir in honey, soy sauce, lemon juice, grated ginger, garlic powder and black pepper. Bring to a boil and then immediately allow to simmer for 1 minute.
  • Using either a pastry brush or a spoon, brush glaze on salmon filet and then pour the remainder all over.
  • Bake for 20 minutes and remove from oven to let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Boiling and then simmering is an important step to get the glaze to thicken.

I bake the salmon at 375° F (190° C)  for 20 minutes. I like to bake it so the juices from the glaze have time to seep into the salmon. The bottom of the salmon also gets slightly caramelized from the natural sugars in the honey.

Once the 20 minutes are up, I allow the fish to rest for 10 minutes before enjoying with sides of my choosing. For serving purposes, this salmon pairs wonderfully over mashed potatoes or even goes nicely over rice and asparagus as pictured. If you love wine, a nice Pinot Noir or Chardonnay complements the fish well. Enjoy your Honey Glazed Salmon!

Happy Eating!

  1. We do something very SIMILAR, but don’t heat the sauce because we use less honey and more ginger. I also add some fresh garlic and Red Pepper flakes to the Sauce. I also bake it at 425 for 12 minutes. Like your household its become staple. Like minds!
